Every year I try to make a hat and scarf for each of my family members. As the years progress, I'm rethinking this strategy. Perhaps now I'll just do a hat or a scarf each. I have 6 siblings, and they are reproducing like rabbits! Ok, so there are only 5 nieces and/or nephews, but come on! I only have so much yarn people! I am joking of course. The kids are too little at the moment to really appreciate my hats and scarves so they just get toys. But as I have just married, (just? holy cow it's been a year! that went by so fast...), my family has grown exponentially as I absorb my husband's brother and sisters as well as his parents. Sorry this has turned into a rant about large families and the difficulty they pose in getting presents for everyone. I'll stop now.
So. Knitting. Hats. Scarves. Snakes. Yup.
That's my repertoire. At some point I've promised myself I'll make a blanket. At the moment that is far out of my reach and patience, but some day... Some day. As it is, I love sitting quietly, counting my stitches. In the evenings, we sit around the fire and I knit while we watch to the Boston Red Sox be awesome or listen to Nathan's father read a P.G. Wodehouse story. My family is very supportive of my sad attempts. Which is very kind of them, as they are all crochet, sewing, and wood carving geniuses. Sheesh, a girl can't win. I take solace in the fact that only I can knit. But it definitely is the lesser of the skills. Ah well. I really do love to knit in the fall. It brings me a sort of peace and contentment. And a mission, has I have to complete 22 hats and scarves in 2 months.
Oh and P.S.
I love to make snakes best because snakes are something of a theme here in the Gerhardt home. Well snakes and birds. We have 1corn snake, 2 ball pythons, 1 rubber boa, and 1 green rat snake. And let's not forget the gecko and tortoise. Those are just the reptiles.| Meet Jimmy and Esmeralda. |
| Esmeralda was a gift for my little niece. Hence the pinks and purples. |
Your evenings sound superb! Someday..sigh.. I am extremely jealous of evenings full of sitting and listening to stories. :)
ReplyDeleteI would like to make a request; may we (the adult Beals') have snakes for Christmas? You make fabulous snakes and Orrin loves snakes best, right after sharks of course ;) and your snakes have been greatly appreciated. Reuben and Mercedes take them to bed with them every night. Every once in a while one decides to slither off some where and there is a great scramble to find it before any one can get to sleep. :)
P.S.
Dear Aunt Renuka,
I would like a small one with sparkly eyes and a tail the jingles ;)
Love,
Susana
